The West Bengal government was directed to pay ₹17 lakh as compensation to the victim's family, but they declined the offer. Charged under Sections 64, 66, and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the verdict followed months of delays and challenges. In November 2024, Roy was formally charged, but the case faltered in December as the CBI failed to file chargesheets on time, leading to bail for two suspects. The victim's family, alleging a lackluster investigation, moved the Calcutta High Court. Protests by doctors underscored the gravity of the case, with the CBI now demanding the maximum punishment. RG Kar Lift Accident: A tragic incident emerged from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a 40-year-old man lost his life after being trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator for over an hour. The state of her lifeless body indicated that she was sexually molested and murdered. However, the principal, Sandip ghosh tried to cover up the case by giving it an angle of suicide. It is only when the doctors’ community protested, that the Kolkata police arrested a man named Sanjay Roy, on 10th august, 2024, who worked as a civic volunteer for the said Kolkata police. On the basis of the post mortem report of the victim, the shady past of the principal of RG KAR hospital and the events that took place in the hospital after the case was handed over to the CBI, the public refused to believe that the crime was done by a single man. Instead they believe there’s a much sinister story behind the murder and Sanjay Roy is just a scapegoat.
