A huge public debate has sparked in Andhra Pradesh regarding the luxury lifestyle and medical diet being provided to prison inmates. Critics have launched a satirical attack on top YSRCP leaders, pointing out a bizarre trend where leaders like Ambati Rambabu, Kodali Nani, DSR Anjaneyulu, Posani Krishna Murali, and Vallabhaneni Vamsi allegedly develop "sudden medical issues" the moment they face jail time or legal action.
The latest addition to this list is suspended YCP MLC Anantha Babu, a key accused in his former driver Subrahmanyam's murder case. Claiming muscle pain and gastric trouble, Anantha Babu requested the court to allow home-cooked food or a special diet in prison. Based on a medical evaluation requested by the court, the Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) Superintendent, Dr. S. Lavanya Kumari, submitted a high-protein diet recommendation that has left the public stunned.
The recommended daily menu for the inmate includes 3 eggs, idli, chutney, and milk for breakfast; 600 grams of rice, dal, curry, buttermilk, an egg, and a banana for lunch; followed by milk and peanut chikki for evening snacks; and a heavy dinner with rice, curry, dal, buttermilk, and another egg. This adds up to a whopping 2,400 to 2,500 calories and 60 to 80 grams of protein daily, alongside provisions for a comfortable mattress and pillow. Principal District Judge Gandham Sunitha has ordered the jail superintendent to submit a feasibility report regarding the implementation of these luxury medical recommendations.
