How Did a Drone Hit an Airplane at JFK?

A drone struck a passenger jet coming into JFK Airport at 3,000ft. It hit right above the cockpit. If it had been sucked into the engine, it could have been catastrophic.
Airport radar never detected it. Most airports have no anti-drone systems, and the ones that do face a legal problem, only the federal government can shoot down or jam a drone. Airports are powerless. And with drone traffic increasing, passenger jets are increasingly sharing the sky with objects radar can't track and airports can't stop.
